Why it is better not to apply the special finish to very large areas

The special finish result is achieved by applying a transparent polymer onto the areas marked in your file with the “Finishing” color swatch. If you have selected gold or silver lamination, a metallic foil of the colour chosen is applied over the transparent polymer. If you have chosen the 3D varnish instead, the clear polymer is set to create a three-dimensional effect.

When you choose to apply a special finish over large areas of your design, the result may turn out uneven, with surface irregularities that can be unpleasant both by touch and sight, as shown in the following example:

To achieve a better result and make your special finish really wow, please follow these indications:

  • The area covered by the finish should not exceed 50% of the total printed surface
  • Apply the finish to small surfaces rather than large areas
  • Minimum thickness of lines with a special finish: 1 pt
  • Minimum size of text with a special finish: 10 pt
  • All elements with a special finish must be placed within the safe area, at least 3 mm from the cut line
