How to ensure the text is the correct size to be clearly visible once printed

If your file contains very small text, it is important to verify that it meets the minimum printable sizes indicated in the instructions for the product you purchased. If the text does not meet our requirements, it may not be legible on the finished product.

The minimum text sizes vary depending on the product, as each material and printing technology has different characteristics and outcomes. For example:, for rigid media the printable limits are specified in the instructions:

An instructional panel numbered 4, 'Additional Information,' stating that vector paths and lines must be at least 0.5 pt thick and the minimum font size for guaranteed print quality is 10 pt.

As you can see, both a minimum font size and a minimum stroke thickness are specified. It is important to pay close attention to this second requirement as well, especially if the font you have chosen has very thin strokes.

In the example below, text smaller than 10 pt is not visible on the printed product.

Close up of a panel with a large legible headline next to a small italic subheading that appears blurred and hard to read, illustrating text printed below the minimum size.

In the example below, strokes smaller than 0.5 pt are not clearly visible on the printed product.

Always refer to the instructions for the product you purchased and ensure that all the text in your file meets the minimum size requirements for printing.
