How to properly prepare a file for a folded flyer

To correctly prepare the file for a folded flyer, pay attention to the following steps:

  1. Insert your content according to the template guidelines: safe area, cut line, fold line, and bleed

  2. Place text and graphics following the orientation indicated in the template

  3. Refer to the numbers shown on the template to understand the reading order (first page, last page, how it opens).

  4. Use Designer to create your folded flyer from scratch online, or to ensure your design is correctly positioned on the template

1.BLEED, CUT, FOLD, AND SAFE AREA

Both in the template and when using Designer, you will find guidelines that help you correctly position your artwork.

The template looks like this:

  • Bleed: the outermost green line. Extend your graphics or background images (those you want to reach the edge of your folded flyer) up to this line. Read here for more information

  • Cut: the magenta line, located inside the bleed area. Your folded flyer will be cut along this line

  • Fold: the dashed red lines where the folds will be made. Do not place text too close to these lines if you want it to remain clearly visible once your product . is printed and folded

  • Safe Area: the solid red line indicates the area within which to place important text and graphics. During the cutting of the printed product, slight deviations of 1-2 mm may occur. It is therefore important to place text and graphics within the safe area to ensure they are not cut off otr too close to the edge, avoiding undesired visual results

When using Designer, our online graphic creation tool, the line defining the safe area is green, the cut line is magenta, and the lines indicating the folds are yellow and dashed:

2. READING THE ORIENTATION AND PAGE NUMBERS INDICATED IN THE TEMPLATE

The template includes numbers that indicate the reading order of the folded flyer  and help you quickly identify the front cover (number 1) and the back cover (the highest number). These numbers are oriented according to the reading direction of the page: when you see an upside-down number, it means you need to rotate your content by 180°

3. USING DESIGNER

Designer is a particularly useful tool when you order the printing of a folded flyer:

  • You can create your graphic design project directly online without the need for specific software

  • You can upload the PDF you have already created using our template and view a 3D preview of the finished product, checking that everything is as you expected

Example of using Designer to check the 3D preview:
