WE HELP YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIAL!

Material

Plexiglass is a shatter-proof polymethyl methacrylate panel suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, available both clear and opal in two different thicknesses of 3 and 5 mm.

Choose clear plexiglass as an alternative to glass both for style and toughness: printing is done mirrored on the back of the clear plexiglass, ensuring the design is visible from the front and protected by the material. You may also add the white printing option: go with solid white to ensure non-faded colours in the whole printing surface, or selective white to highlight specific details or print white ink.

If you’re looking to make your designs stand out, opal plexiglass is the way to go: its surface ensures a smooth, elegant finish, making it ideal for signage, decorative panels and retail displays. For illuminated applications, we recommend Backlight Opal Plexiglass 5 mm: while the base material shares the same charachteristics as standard opal plexiglass, it features a dedicated printing process with a double layer of ink and a protective varnish. This combination ensures optimal light diffusion, richer colours and consistent results when backlit, making it the ideal solution for illuminated signs and logos. Please note that opal plexiglass features a semi-transparent whitish base specifically designed for backlit applications, so white printing is not necessary. Once backlit, light spreads evenly across the entire surface of the panel, keeping white graphic elements visible without the need for additional white ink.

Formats

From the smallest plaque to the biggest panel, we’re able to offer you plexiglass printing in various customised sizes: from 14 x 14 cm we can cover your whole walls up to 150 x 290 cm. Just consider that both clear and opal 5 mm plexiglas can be printed in one panel up to 120 x 198 cm. Larger designs (up to 150 x 290 cm) will be divided into multiple panels to hang one close to the other, with no overlapping. Be sure to download the template after configuring the order to check whether your order will be divided or not.

It’s true, there’s no limit to your customisation with Pixartprinting as a partner, but if you’re wondering which sizes are the most commonly used, we also offer you various

Looking for an extra customisation of your sign? Choose the custom shape option to give it your own unique format!

Design a directional sign in the shape of an arrow, create a panel that follows your product’s edge to grab attention, or get creative with any shape you like! Please note, we can only handle an external custom cut based on the path you provide in your file, and we’re unable to process internal or multiple cuts.

Accessories & varnish

If you’re wondering how to mount your plexiglass panel, depending on the format and cut chosen, we offer several solutions for hanging it on a wall or other flat surfaces:

  • Holes: 9 mm diameter holes along the perimeter to easily fix your panel (screws not included). When ordering, specify how many hangers you need and where to place them: starting from the corners, they’ll be placed at equal distances from each other
  • Double-sided adhesive hanging kit: one piece to be attached to the back of the printing, and the other to the wall, allowing for easy and quick panel interchange on the same surface. We also provide screws, and wall plugs for an extra strength, to be used on uneven surfaces if the panel doesn’t adhere perfectly to the wall. Elements are provided for all 4 corners. Distance from the wall: 5 mm. Please use a drill cutter to avoid damaging the material
  • Self-adhesive spacer kit: 4 elements made of clear polycarbonate triangular plates to be attached to the back of the panel and silver nickel spacers. This kit, designed for easy fixation, includes removable side pieces to ensure the correct distance from the edge of the panel. Use double-sided tape to mark drill holes on the wall, then screw the nickel spacers in place. Finally, press gently to secure the panel to the wall. Distance from the wall: 20 mm
  • Adjustable hanging kit: an invisible kit made of triangular plates, to be attached to the back of the panel with double-sided tape, along with screws and plugs to hang it on the wall. Once you’ve fixed the plates to the panel, insert the screw into the wall, hang the panel, and adjust the angle (up to 45°) to ensure it’s straight. Elements are provided for 2 corners. Distance from the wall: 15 mm
  • Classic spacer kit: 4 silver-coloured aluminium spacers with a self-locking screw cup (outer diameter 13 mm, total length 23 mm), ideal for attaching plaques, signs, boards etc. to walls: the pre-drilled panel will be at a 19 mm distance from the wall
  • Repositionable sticker kit: 4 removable and repositionable double-sided stickers that avoid having to drill into your walls. Sticker thickness: 3.5 mm. Individual sticker dimensions: 2.5 x 2.5 cm

Please note that some accessories may not be available for certain material and dimension combinations: the website only displays the options available according to your quote.

And if you want to give your opal plexiglass panel a stunning shine, add our varnish with a glossy effect: it will not only embellish your printing but also protect it from scratches. If you’re using the panel outdoors, we highly suggest adding varnish for extra durability and protection.

FAQ
  • How is plexiglass printed?

For clear plexiglass, printing is done on the reverse side (the back surface): this method protects the print behind the material, giving it a glossy, durable finish when viewed from the front. The front side remains unprinted and smooth, enhancing the visual effect through the transparency of the plexiglass.

For opal plexiglass, printing is instead done on the front side: this is because the material is not fully transparent, so printing on the front ensures maximum colour visibility.

  • How does the Multi-artwork option work for plexiglass panels?
For plexiglass panels up to 115 x 145 cm, you can order up to 10 design variations whilst keeping the same choice of material, format and accessories. You can personalise the quantity for each variant and assign a name to easily identify them.

  • Which option should I select to get a solid white panel?

For a solid, pure white result, we recommend choosing clear plexiglass combined with a solid white print. Opal plexiglass is designed specifically for backlit applications, therefore, without backlighting, it won’t appear pure white and may look slightly greyish.

  • How can I hang a plexiglass panel?

You can easily hang it on a wall or another plain surface using the accessories we provide on the website: choose the option that best suits your needs from the ones described above. Please note that accessories can only be requested together with the panel and not separately.

  • How to discover if my order will be divided into panels?

By checking the information under the “i” icon (after selecting the material you want to print), you’ll find out the maximum size for a single panel. Larger artworks (up to 150 x 290 cm) will be mandatorily divided into multiple equal-sized panels, to be hung side by side, without any overlapping. Designer and template provided can give you a general idea of how the division may work: please consider it as a rough guideline; due to production needs the division in panels may be different. As for the file, no need to worry: our team will automatically take care of the splitting during production. Therefore, we kindly ask you to send us a single complete design, without dividing it into multiple files.

  • Is plexiglass suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, plexiglass can be used outdoors as it is weather resistant. In case you choose the opal plexiglass, we always recommend adding varnish to the panel to give it extra protection and make the print last longer.

  • Are the side edges of the panel printed?

No, the edges remain unprinted and retain the original plexiglass finish.

  • Is plexiglass printable on both sides?

No, plexiglass is printable only on one side.

If you’re looking for a material that can be printed on both sides and withstand outdoor conditions, we recommend white aluminium.

  • Is it possible to write on the panel?

Yes, you can write on the panel, even if varnished, with a permanent marker. Even if you’re using a dry-erase marker, we can’t guarantee that, when removing the drawing, the printed surface won’t be damaged: we therefore don’t recommend using the panel as a dry-erase board.

  • Can I have one or more internal cuts?

At the moment, we only provide a single external cut. Also, you can have a customised cut shape.

  • How may I clean my plexiglass board?

Use a soft cloth with water or a non-abrasive neutral detergent. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners, which can damage the clear surface.

  • How do you pack panels?

Panels are packed in thick corrugated cardboard with robust protective corners. If you order more than one panel, they may be packed all together or separately. It is not possible to ask for a customised packaging: We always provide the best and safest solution.

  • How can I create my panel design?

Use Designer to create your standard shape panel and get inspired by thousands of free models or ask our help through Design Services. If you’re creating your file with a design software, please download the instruction document and the template provided once you enter the quote.
